Yea that's right. I'm showing off the mad drumming skill set that our very own Don Welsh, President and CEO of the Indianapolis Convention and Visitors Association (ICVA), can swing out on command.
Let me share a little story of why (again) I love working for the ICVA.
We held an event at the Percussive Art Society's new Rhythm Discovery Center earlier this week. AWESOME place.
I was going to blog about it but Bill already wrote a great post. So I thought to myself, "Hm. Maybe I can just share a photo that summed up my experience."
First I needed to find a photo that exemplified the following traits of the Rhythm Discovery Center:
A- They have some pretty cool instruments... (to say the least).
B- You can play as loud as you want without anyone yelling at you for your... "talent."
C- No matter your range of rockstar street cred... this is the place to break down some beats.
D- This place certainly has no age limit.
And here it is, the picture that did it all for me:
Don Welsh attempting the drums in the isolation booth.
Now, I mean this in the most endearing way of course, or else I wouldn't be writing about it.
I was in charge of taking some photos and right when Don walked in, I said "Don, you know what... we need to get you playing the drums on camera."
Of course he accepted the offer. It's Don Welsh for goodness sake, like he'd turn down a challenge such as this. Psh.
(Little did he know I just wanted to see what kind of jams he can pump out.)
So there we went, in the small isolated room where only our ears would hear the... uhmm...very unique sounds of his drumming skills. Now he was no Matt Carter, Vice President of Music, Arts and Culture and Executive Director of MusicCrossroads (and add best percussionist I know to the list), but the fact that he entertained me for a short minute of beats was good enough for me.
Now let's see your CEO do that.
Yea.
That's what I thought.
